Female Monologue: Mission to Prom
Comedic female teen monologue by Gabriel Davis
Zora is the leader of the space club. When her friend Ellie falls for Jake, Zora focuses the space club's attentions from the stars to something more terrestrial: Prom! Zora addresses Ellie. They are in a classroom used for the space club's after school meetings and the members of the space club are present. Ellie has been reluctant to go after Jake. In this monologue, Zora pledges that she and the entire space club will serve as Ellie's "mission control" on her daring mission to go to the prom with Jake. Zora's objective: to get Ellie fired up and motivated. Note: if you are not aware of JFK's famous speech about going to the moon, you need to google it as part of actor preparation.
ZORA: Ok so first of all, I’m here to tell you that your teenage daydream is going to become a reality. Will it be easy? No. It will be hard. It may be the hardest mission Space Club has ever had to pull off. But we choose this mission - we choose to get you to the Prom with Jake - not because it is easy, but because it is hard. Because choosing this goal will call upon the best talents within us. Because Jake is a challenge that we are willing to accept, that we are unwilling to postpone, and that we intend to win!
If I were to say, my dear Ellie, that we shall send you to Prom with Jake, following a plan, some of which has not yet been invented, and that you will face the risk of torment by the Nasty P’s, several times more than you have ever experienced, you might wonder, if it’s worth it? Should you do it? Can we pull it off? Well, I say we can, if we do it right, and if we do it fast--but we must be bold.
Long ago a great British explorer, George Mallory, was asked why he wanted to climb Mount Everest. He said, "Because it is there." Well, Jake is there, and we are going to get you to Prom with him. And, therefore, as we set out on this mission, we ask the universe for its blessing on the most hazardous and dangerous and greatest adventure on which a teenage girl has ever embarked. Are you ready?
