Male Monologue: This Anomaly
By Gabriel Davis
DECEMBER, 2022
In the hallway outside Dr. Fredrick's laboratory. Angela exits the laboratory. Chance follows after.
CHANCE
The entire human race is depending on us…kissing. On the lips.
Every time you kiss me, every neuron of my brain ignites with electricity. And your brain is doing the exact same thing. We are not being hit with a spark of love here. We are being electrocuted. And Dr. Fredricks is still trying to make sense of the data. Well I’m telling you, you don’t need a PhD to figure out what’s going on here. We have accidentally stumbled on a one in a million. life altering, game changing, transformational, I’ll just say it, love.
In all Dr Fredricks years of research, all the studies she’s run, she’s never seen the brains of two people kissing light up like this. What we are feeling is an anomaly in the human experience. And personally being inside that anomaly here with you, it is a god damn beautiful thing.
This anomaly is what the romantic poets, the novelists, the playwrights, the filmmakers are talking about that almost no one ever experiences. This is the kind of rare love that Romeo and Juliet died for.
After that kiss, I excelled at every social, emotional and cognitive test Dr. Fredricks threw at me. And yours were off the charts too, right? This love is literally making me a better man. And it must be making you a better …
Look, I know this all might seem overwhelming given the obviously heavy rock upon your finger there but …
What’s happening here is objectively, scientifically undeniable. And Dr. Fredricks is going to unlock the secret of whatever we’re feeling here so that more people can find it, can feel it, so that she can heal this god damned angry broken world…because I believe she’s going to understand this lightening between us … she’s going to put the lightning in a bottle, and she’s going to let the world drink it.
Please … Angela…Don’t walk away from this.
(Puckers his lips)
Kiss me.
